African Review of Economics and Finance

The African Review of Economics and Finance (AREF) is the official journal of the African Finance and Economics Consult (AFEC). The Journal acknowledges that the word 'economic' is plural and all economies are positioned, situated, and embedded in particular societies. Therefore, how the economy is studied must necessarily be plural. From this perspective, the journal welcomes high quality articles in theoretical and empirical economics, be they orthodox, heterodox, or economics as an interdisciplinary social science, with special emphasis on African economies and/or how they relate to other economies in Africa or the rest of the world.

The EDITOR of AREF, Dr. Franklin Obeng-Odoom has been elected to the Fellowship of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was inducted into office on 17 November 2015. This makes him the youngest Fellow to ever ascend this prestigious position in the academy's 56 year history. In a relatively short time of an academic  career that only started in the late 2000s, Dr. Obeng-Odoom has carved a niche for himself in the area of political economy of development, cities and natural resources (specifically water, oil, and land). He has written three influential books and authored more than 80 peer reviewed articles in very influential journals.

In addition to this latest honour, Dr. Obeng-Odoom was the recipient of the reputable Dan David Prize awarded for innovative and interdisciplinary research in April 2010, and a World Social Science Fellowship awarded only to globally-networked research leaders who  collaborate  to address pressing global problems with particular relevance for low and middle income countries in January 2013.

We at AREF are very proud of this remarkable achievement and we are convinced that the pace at which he is growing will encourage other young scholars to emulate his example.

We join with our readers, reviewers, publishers and supporters in congratulating Dr. Franklin Obeng-Odoom.
