CALL FOR PAPERS:  Alterity and Decolonisation – intersecting theories and praxis

Special themed section on alterity: Alterity and Decolonisation – intersecting theories and praxis

We invite you to submit manuscripts for a special themed section in  Phronimon, the journal for the South African Society for Greek Philosophy and the Humanities (SASGPH). Phronimon is an open access journal accredited with the DHET (Department of Higher Education and Training, RSA).

The  section will be based on contributions made at the PPA (Postgraduate Philosophical Association) conference held at University of Pretoria, 19-20 October 2018, but we also invite new submissions from graduate students who did not present at the conference. The theme of the special issue is ‘Alterity: Alterity and Decolonisation – intersecting theories and praxis’.

Cognisant of distinct approaches to ‘Alterity’, the special issue aims to inspire critical debate on divergent definitions, understandings, and engagements with ‘Alterity’. We encourage papers that engage with decoloniality, curriculum transformation, and epistemic justice; and we invite contributions from graduates working in all subsets of the discipline; phenomenology, ethics, epistemology, feminist theory, political theory, and metaphysics, to mention a few. These submissions may focus broadly on sub-themes including, but not limited to:

  • Theories of Justice
  • Epistemic Ruptures in Knowledge Systems
  • Contestations in Decoloniality
  • Critical Race Theory
  • Dissent and the Terror of Consensus
  • The Problem of Other Minds
  • Epistemic Injustice
  • Gender and Intersexuality
  • Epistemologies of Ignorance

Guest editor: Dr Minka Woermann @ (with Dr Julio Andrade and Mr Samuel Segan).

Timelines: The deadline for submissions for inclusion in the special issue is 30 June 2019. We aim to publish the special issue by the end of November 2019.
